NTLP - Not Typical Library Partners

Summer 2013
Goodbye from NTLP
box_top.gif
If you have visited the NTLP website in the last three months, you have seen that NTLP has closed its office, discontinued all services except for fulfilling previous commitments, and terminated all full-time staff.

You can read the details about why this happened and how specific projects were terminated on our website, in the March 29 announcement, the April 12 update, the April 30 second update, and the June 8 final update.  Please also read the farewell messagefrom Executive Director Carolyn Brewer.

It is the plan of the NTLP Board of Directors to keep the 501(c)(3) entity intact, to restructure the organization, and to investigate funding opportunities for future projects.

For NTLP Partner Libraries

Vendor Discounts for NTLP Partner Libraries continue to be available through September 30, 2013.  The NTLP website will continue to be available at least through that date so Partner Libraries can log in to access discount details.

Several new vendor relationships were in the process of being negotiated before NTLP announced its closing.  As these new relationships are finalized, we will continue to use the NTLP email mailing lists to notify Partner Libraries.

Resume Maker continues to be available to the patrons of NTLP Partner Libraries through September 30, 2013.

CTLS has generously offered to provide, until October 1, 2013, their newsletter, consulting services, training, and member listservs to NTLP member libraries as if they were CTLS members.

Sources of Support for Your Library

Please see the NTLP website for a list of support organizations that can provide help for your library.  Recent articles in the NTLP Bloghave highlighted a few of them, including the Library Support Service from Amigos, and expanding services including vendor discounts from CTLS.

For Texas libraries that use Plinkit for their websites, Henry Stokes at TSLAC continues to be the primary point of support.  Be sure to subscribe to the Texas Plinkit email mailing list for news.  ThePlinkit page at the NTLP website provides a list of online resources from Texas and other states to assist you.

The NTLP website provides a list of Continuing Education providersthat offer training opportunities relevant to library staff. In particular, be sure to sign up for updates from TSLAC's Library Developments blog, which regularly lists upcoming online training events, many of them at no charge.

Ongoing Projects

The NTLP Hands-On eReader Labs program, partially funded by a FY2013 grant from IMLS and TSLAC, is now gathering data from the participating libraries in preparation for filing reports to the grant funder.  The grant administration requirements for the remainder of the funding cycle will be completed under the oversight of the NTLP Board of Directors. Information about the project can be found on the eReaders in Libraries page at the NTLP website.  Subscribe to NTLP's eReader Labs email list for more on about using eReaders in a library setting.

The circulating collection of ereaders and tablet computers is still available for NTLP partner libraries to borrow until the end of the fiscal year.

The project to develop an eBook Distribution Platform for libraries, named Geodesity, has been transferred to Amigos. Administration requirements for the FY2013 grant from IMLS and TSLAC for this project will be completed under the oversight of the NTLP Executive Director and Board of Directors.  The FY2014 grant proposal for this project, prepared and submitted to TSLAC by NTLP staff in February, was transferred to Amigos and has been recommended by the review committee for funding.

Other Recent Events
