What do you do with an old laptop?

Submitted by judy on

This is another project by NTLP’s friend at Tarrant County College, Ayyoub Ajmi.

Ayyoub discovered a set of 29 outdated laptops that TCC had retired and was keeping in storage. Rather than see the hardware go to waste, he found grant funding and partners to help repurpose the laptops into digital exhibition platforms. The units have been set up throughout the J. Ardis Bell Library, some displaying information about library services and programs, and some displaying student digital artwork.

NTLP Laptop Computers Distributed to Libraries

As part of NTLP's closure process, the laptop computer labs previously used for NTLP training events were split up and distributed to libraries during the last week of April, 2013.  The distribution took place at the end of the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in Fort Worth, where the laptops had been on loan for the Hands-On Labs training sessions during the conference.  Each receiving library received a set of 5 used laptop computers with power cords, mouses, mousepads, a wheeled cart, one laptop bag, and a powerstrip with a long cord.

Second Update on NTLP Closure Progress

As announced previously, NTLP is in the process of closing down the office in Fort Worth and arranging for the termination or transfer of all responsibilities related to ongoing projects. As of today (April 30, 2013) NTLP will focus only on previously made commitments and completing paperwork and tasks related to closure. The office itself will be closed as of May 31, 2013.
